In August 2024, Bulgaria made its first large-scale national appearance at Gamescom in Cologne - the world’s biggest gaming exhibition and one of the most important global events for the gaming industry. Together with gamers, studios, publishers, investors, and media from all over the world, Bulgarian game developers had the chance to showcase their work on an international stage.
More than 10 Bulgarian studios took part in the national stand, including Incineration Productions, Kipi Interactive, The Sixth Hammer, TDB Play, Elando, Chase a Cloud, VertexBee, Dreamtech, and Punchev Group. The companies presented demos of their latest games for PC and consoles, highlighting the creativity, talent, and growing potential of the Bulgarian game dev industry.
The initiative was supported by the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA) in partnership with Createch Bulgaria, marking an important step toward giving greater visibility to the sector internationally and helping position Bulgaria on the global gaming map.
“There is so much talent and expertise in the Bulgarian gaming industry. For us, it is important not only to support companies internationally, but also to encourage the creation of original Bulgarian games and content that can compete globally,” said Genoveva Christova-Murray, Founder and President of the Board of Createch Bulgaria.
Among the highlighted titles was SpellPunk VR by Incineration Productions - an innovative multiplayer VR game where players cast spells by drawing magical symbols in the air. The game’s soundtrack was created by internationally recognised Bulgarian composer Penka Kouneva, whose work is known from Hollywood films and video games.
